Understanding Your Freezerbot Sensor

Learn how to interpret LED indicators and use the control button. The LED will make certain patterns so make sure to take note which pattern its currently making.

LED Status Indicators

Your Freezerbot sensor communicates its status through the LED indicator on the front

Solid Blue

Normal Operation

A solid blue light indicates that your sensor is connected to WiFi and operating normally. Temperature readings are being sent to the Freezerbot service at regular intervals.

Quick Flash

Temperature Just Sent

Congrats, you received a new temperature reading in the Freezerbot app! When this blink happens it means a temperature was just sent. It will return to solid blue after blinking twice.

Temperatures are automatically sent every minute, so you should see the light blink at a regular interval.

Slow Blinking Blue

(1 blink per second)

Setup Mode

When the LED is blinking blue at a steady rate of about once per second, your sensor is in setup mode. This typically occurs when:

  • The sensor is powered on for the first time
  • The sensor has been reset to setup mode using the button
  • The sensor cannot connect to any configured WiFi networks

In setup mode, the sensor creates its own WiFi network named "Freezerbot-Setup-XXXX" that you can connect to for configuration.

Double-Blink Pattern

WiFi Connection Issue

If your sensor is blinking in a distinct double-blink pattern (two quick blinks followed by a pause), it indicates a WiFi connectivity issue. The sensor is having trouble connecting to the configured WiFi network.

The sensor will automatically attempt to reconnect and may try alternative networks if configured.

Check that your WiFi network is operational and that the sensor is within range. After multiple failed attempts, the sensor may reboot to try to resolve the issue.

Fast Blinking Blue

(5 blinks per second)

Error State

A rapidly blinking blue light (about 5 times per second) indicates that your sensor has encountered an error. This could be related to:

  • Temperature sensor malfunctioning
  • Persistent API communication issues
  • Internal software errors

Please wait a few minutes to give the sensor time to auto recover before trying to reboot. If the system cannot auto recover, most issues can be fixed by a system reboot by holding the button for at least 2 seconds and releasing.

If the error persists after a reboot (holding the button for 2 seconds), it may require a factory reset. If that still doesn't fix the issue, please contact support.

Button Functions

Your Freezerbot sensor has a single button that serves multiple functions based on how long you press it. When pressing make sure to watch the LED to see the confirmation pattern.

Quick Press

(less than 2 seconds)

No Action

A quick press of the button (less than 2 seconds) does not trigger any action. This is designed to prevent accidental button presses from affecting your sensor.

System Reboot

(LED after 2 seconds)

2 Second Hold

Holding the button for 2 seconds will trigger a system reboot. The LED will blink twice to confirm that a reboot is being prepared.

Use this function if your sensor is experiencing minor issues such as delayed temperature readings or sluggish performance.

A reboot will not affect your configuration settings or WiFi connections.

Reset to Setup Mode

(LED after 10 seconds)

10 Second Hold

Holding the button for 10 seconds will reset your sensor to setup mode. The LED will blink 5 times to confirm this action.

This action:

  • Clears the Freezerbot login information from the device
  • Keeps WiFi network settings
  • Keeps the sensor name

Use this if you need to reassign the sensor to a different Freezerbot account or if you're experiencing persistent connectivity issues with the Freezerbot service.

Clear All Settings

(LED after 30 seconds)

30 Second Hold

Holding the button for more than 30 seconds will perform a complete factory reset. The LED will blink 10 times rapidly to confirm.

This action:

  • Deletes all WiFi network settings
  • Clears Freezerbot login information
  • Returns the sensor to its original factory state

Only use factory reset if you want to completely remove your settings. You will need to complete the entire setup process again.

Do not disconnect power during a factory reset. The sensor will automatically reboot when the process is complete and return to setup mode.

Troubleshooting Tips

Sensor won't connect to WiFi (double blink)

  • Check that your WiFi network is operational
  • Ensure the sensor is within range of your WiFi router
  • Verify that you entered the correct WiFi password during setup
  • Hold the button for 10 seconds to reset to setup mode and reconfigure WiFi

Temperature readings are incorrect

  • Ensure the temperature probe is properly positioned in your freezer/refrigerator
  • Check that the probe cable is not damaged or pinched
  • Try rebooting the sensor (2 second button hold)

Sensor shows error state (fast blinking)
